How to Get the Perfect Glow All Summer Long by Alexandra Hickman
Summer is all about having sunkissed, bronzed glowy skin. The goal from now until September is to look like you’ve just stepped off the plane from a 2 week long vacation in Tahiti. For some of us this may be the case but for the ones who aren’t doing that there is of course a very easy way to achieve this look!
Water!- This is the most important step ever. Being that our skin is our biggest organ we need to make sure that we are properly hydrating it everyday! We should be drinking at least 75 ounces of water everyday. Remember, beauty comes from within! So to really get that skin glowing make sure you are hydrating daily, a good habit to get into it chugging a glass of water when you wake up and before every meal. Also, throw a lemon or whatever flavors you like (mint, cucumber, etc) in your water so it tastes better. You can also make drinking water more enjoyable by getting a trendy water bottle which we discussed in our summer bag essential article.
Exfoliate!- Yes, using a proper cleanser everyday is very important but it is even more important to make sure you exfoliate your skin everyday. When you’re not exfoliating you’re allowing old skin cells to build up causing a dull and dry look, which is NOT something you want. Once you begin exfoliating 2-3 times a week you will immediately notice your skin glowing. Some of my favorites that I use areAmore PacificandSt. Ives(great price and truly works great!
BB/CC Cream- Caking your face is NEVER cute, especially in the heat. No one wants to see makeup melting away like its ice cream. So this summer ditch the heavy foundations and concealers and opt for a BB or CC cream. There really isn’t too much of a difference between BB and CC creams. BB creams are usually a little bit lighter and have less skin care benefits, CC (color corrective) creams are for evening out skin tones and will usually have anti-aging benefits and some other special ingredients. Both usually have SPF in it which is extremely important in the summer. (Sunscreen should really be worn all year round ladies!) So it is really about picking out the one you think is most beneficial to you.IT Cosmetics,L’Oreal, andOlayall offer amazing CC creams.Elf, Dr.Jart+,Maybelline, andMAC Cosmeticsall have amazing BB creams.
Bronzer- Bronzer is best way to give you an instant tan. Especially if you don’t have the luxury of going to the beach everyday. You can apply this after your BB or CC cream to your cheeks and chest (or all over if that is your style) using any kind of brush.Benefit,Chanel,NARSandNYXare some of the many amazing bronzers that are offered.
Blush- to really top off your whole “just got back from the beach” vibe a little blush on the cheeks will really do the job. Always go a little lighter on the blush, bright red cheeks are not a good look even if you just stepped off the beach.Glossieroffers a cream blush that is super easy to apply,NARSandMaybellineare also good options.
Highlighter– Ahh, highlighter is probably my favorite part of makeup. Ever wonder how all the woman in any Sports Illustrated article, or on the red carpet just have the perfect glow? Let me me tell you a secret, they are using highlighter all over! Since I began using highlighter I felt like my face and look completely changed. You can use as much or as little as you would like and you can put it pretty much anywhere (chest, shoulders, legs). My personal favorite highlighters are made byBecca, some less expensive options would be fromElforNYX.
