How to Motivate in the Fall Months (As Summer Comes to an End)
{ By Miranda Martin }
As summer winds down, you may be feeling the autumnal slump. The kids are going back to school, you’re taking less vacation time off from work, and you’re already anxious about all the fall holidays ahead. These tips will help you take a step back and get motivated during the end-of-summer months, as well as get fall-focused for the months to come.
Tip 1: Take a fall-weather walk to put some pep in your step!
As summer winds down and the suffocating heat winds down with it, I always enjoy taking some nice, fall-weather walks to enjoy not only the crisp autumn air and fall foliage, but to reconnect with myself when I’m having trouble getting “in the zone”. The benefits of walking on both the body and mind are far-reaching, and when the fall air hits it’s the perfect time to get outside and get some extra steps in to get both body and mind focused and energized in no time.
Tip 2: Find a fall hobby or activity that keeps your mind engaged.
Upset that summer is over and all your vacation plans have come and gone? I recommend finding something else to look forward to in the fall months. Finding a hobby or activity that engages your brain can help ward off the seasonal blues and keep you motivated all season long. For example, learning to knit, bake, or taking some kind of fun, hobby class after work or school can keep your mind refreshed and well-exercised even as life slows down a bit in the fall.
Tip 3: Refresh your space for fall!
This one may be my personal favorite because I know nothing gets me more excited and energized at home than rearranging or redecorating my living space. We all know about “spring-cleaning”, but switching up your home decor in the fall (even beyond pumpkin-spiced candles and cute Halloween decorations) can make your space feel brand new and re-energized, especially if you work from home. Never tried feng-shui, for example? Fall may be a good time to dig in and try a new style.
Summer (sadly) isn’t endless, but fall can be tons of fun and a great time to find balance and focus to get through the tough winter months ahead with these simple tips.
