Let’s Celebrate Ella Dean

{By: Lauren Trunfio} Nicole Rose is the founder of Ella Dean, a natural hair care brand for men and women with textured hair. Nicole Rose is an accomplished and successful entrepreneur, but what we found to be most enticing and sincere about her business was that she named it after her grandmother Ella Dean. Gloria ‘Ella’ Dean worked in her parents’ salon, Dean’s Beauty Salon & Barbershop in the 60s, where she continued to maintain her family’s legacy for generations to come. Although Nicole never had the opportunity to meet her grandmother, she took it upon herself to continue her family’s powerful legacy by creating Ella Dean to honor the kind of stylist and loving person that she was.

Now, Ella Dean is named Oregon’s oldest Black-owned business, which is such a major accomplishment! All of Ella Dean’s hair care products contain natural oils that promote hair growth, as well as a healthy scalp. Look, But Don’t Touch is Ella Dean’s best-seller product, which is a scalp revitalizer that contains an all-natural blend of pomegranate, indian gooseberry, hibiscus, and comfrey root. All products, such as this one, can be used on damp or dry hair, and applied directly to the scalp. You can find Ella Dean products in several stores within Portland such as Mid-K Beauty Supply, Coral Story Beauty, and Drink Mamey. She also currently sells products at local farmers’ markets.
